Sauder Village is honored to host this
exciting annual rug hooking event, and appreciates your
support and participation to ensure the continuation and
celebration of this traditional art form.
For over 30 years, Sauder Village has
offered guests experiences rich in history, hospitality,
creativity, and fun. Our living history museum preserves the
stories of the past and features artisans of traditional
American crafts, making Sauder Village an ideal venue for a
week of rug hooking activity. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization, Sauder Village relies on support from
admissions, retail sales, and donations to sustain the
mission, as well as the attendance and involvement of our
members and volunteers.

Dear Fellow Rug Hookers,
What an exciting Rug Hooking Week we have
planned for you this year; from our Featured Exhibit, new
vendors and more half-day and full-day workshops to the new
“Mixed Media” category. Here’s more information….
Featured Exhibit - Mary Sheppard Burton and artist
Leonard Feenan will share their collection and amazing “Noah’s
Ark” with us. This three dimensional Ark stands 5’ 7” and weighs
more than 300 pounds. On the deck of the Ark, you will see more
than 100 individual hooked animals and people...it’s simply an
inspiration! Come meet them and see their incredible work!
New Vendors - This year we have invited Mary Sheppard &
Leonard Feenan, Bonnie Smith of the Wool Street Journal
(Colorado), Kim Dubay of Primitive Pastimes (Maine), Kay Kjeldgaard of Kay’s Crafts (Illinois) to join our
other wonderful vendors. So it will truly be a… “shop ‘til you
drop” week!
More Workshops - The topics and projects are so creative,
diverse & filled with great tips and techniques. Our 16
workshops will be taught by outstanding teachers: Gene Shepherd,
Jane Halliwell Green, Helen Jeffrey, Bea Brock, Joyce Krueger,
June Mikoryak, Susan Feller, Nola Heidbreder, Donna Hrkman,
Alice Strebel, Kim Dubay and Nancy Blair. So if you’re just
visiting for just a couple of days, we have great half-day and
full-day workshops to offer you.
“Mixed Media” Category - This category will replace the
“Other” category in our Main Exhibit. Mixed Media refers to
artwork made using more than one medium (techniques and/or
materials). This category will still include multi-dimensional
hooked pieces such as footstools, purses, dolls, pillows, etc.,
and pieces using techniques such as proddy, felting, needle
felting, needlepunch, punch hook, penny rugs, braiding and wool appliqué
and make-do’s. However, it will now expand to include: pieces
hooked with materials other than or in addition to wool (such as
plastic, ribbon, paper, etc.) as well as pieces utilizing more
than one technique (such as combining hooking, needle felting
and appliqué, etc.). We know that many of you are venturing into
these areas and encourage you to exhibit your creative and
innovative pieces.
Please join us for the 14 th
Annual Rug Hooking Week at Sauder Village, whether it’s for the
entire week or a couple of days... you’ll find it’s filled with
fun, friendship, relaxation, education, inspiration and
memories!
Kathy Wright, Director of Rug Hooking Week
P.S. Will YOU be trading ATC’s this year? (See our workshop page
for more information!)
"Thanks so much for getting me into a class.
Truth be known, the friendships made and fellowship experienced are as, if not more, important to me than the instructor. You always made each and every participant feel so welcome, valued and cared for. Something that never went unnoticed nor unappreciated. Sauder Village is a special place indeed and I so look forward to my week with everyone there each August."
Katherine Walmsley London, Ontario, Canada
