Challenge Guidelines
Threads of Tradition at Historic
Sauder Village sponsors the...
Village Quilt Challenge 2010
Theme: "Small Matters"...
Each entrant will create a quilt design sewn entirely with
pieced and/or appliqué blocks measuring 5 inches or less. Blocks
may be set block-to-block, alternate block, on point, in a
strippy or row set, medallion-style, sampler or in any manner of
the artist’s choosing. Each entry must be quilted either by hand
and/or machine. In this Challenge we are looking for original,
small-scale quilts with a balance of scale and proportion, fine
workmanship, and pleasing use of fabric and color that creates
pattern, texture, depth and movement as the eye moves across the
quilt. Judging will be based on the criteria above and all
judges decisions are final. All 2010
Challenge quilts are subject to the same entry guidelines as all
other categories in the quilt show.

Fabrics...
For the 2010 challenge we
have grouped Marcus Brothers’ Bonnie Blue Basics and Neutrals
into three color-ways. (Blue/Green/Cheddar, Red/Brown/Black and
Pink/Purple/Gray). Each challenge packet will contain 15 fat
quarters of assorted prints including neutral prints that can
work well for background fabrics. Each entrant may choose one or
more color- ways to include in their challenge quilt or you can
mix and match these fabrics to create your own color
combination. To qualify for the Challenge, each entry must
include an easily recognizable piece of at least ten different
Bonnie Blue fabrics. Only Bonnie Blue fabrics by Marcus Brothers
may be used in the challenge, no others may be added on the
front of the quilt and binding. Backings may be of any fabric
desired by the artist.
We would love to have you visit us
to personally pick up your fabric packet, but if that is not
possible, we will send your challenge fabrics to you for $44.98
including tax, shipping and handling per packet. If additional
yardages are needed, all challenge fabrics may be viewed above
and ordered by calling Threads of Tradition at
