Sauder Village provides many great programs brought directly to your
classroom. While nothing can replace a visit to Sauder Village, one
of our educational programs can provide a focused learning lab for
your students of all ages. If you do not see what you are looking

Our programs meet State Curriculum standards in Social Studies,
Science and Math and incorporate reading and writing skills.

Note: For a half day booking, we can repeat
a single program up to three times within a four hour
period. For a whole day booking, we can repeat the
same program up to six times within a seven hour period.
Program Listing...
| Items with an
asterisk, reflect programs that can also travel to your
classroom. Unless otherwise noted, most programs run about
an hour. Although, all the programs can be adapted in length
to meet your scheduling needs. Because we like to provide as
much interaction as possible, our programs are designed to
work with groups of up to 30 at a time. The exception is the
“My Day” and “Pioneer Life” programs held here at the
village. Most of our programs can be adapted to meet any age
group. |
Spinning
Learn how wool is spun into yarn and then turned into
clothing! Students will explore the workings of the spinning wheel
as well as have a chance to card and spin wool. This program
contains Science content as well as Social Studies.
One Room School
Step back in time and learn your ABC’s in the age before computers
and the internet. Students will do lessons from original 19th
century readers, make copybooks and have a spelling bee. NOTE: If
you would like each of your students to keep their own slates and
slate pencils, we can provide those for $5.00 per student.
The
Story of Quilts
This is an ideal program for younger children in Preschool through
2nd grade. You’ll hear a story about quilts, learn how quilt
patterns were made and have a chance to try quilting. Plus, together
the class will work on a paper friendship quilt.
Natives and
Newcomers
Come and explore what life was like in Northwest Ohio in 1803, the
year Ohio became a state. Learn about the daily life of Native
Americans and the European Fur Traders. If you do this program here
at Sauder Village, you will get a personal tour of our Native
American Exhibit. If we come to your classroom, we will bring our
travelling wigwam and trade goods.
History’s
Mysteries
Did you ever think that history was like a great detective story?
We’ll explore how historians use artifacts and primary sources as
clues to solving the mysteries of the past. Students will have a
chance to play detective themselves as they get to work with a
mystery artifact. The program covers Science Content.

Playtimes
and Pastimes
Get your group up and moving with this fun and games program. Not
only will your students learn about games and toys from the past,
they’ll get to try them out for themselves.
Better Butter
Do you know where butter comes from? Students will not only get to
make butter, but explore some of the science behind why cream turns
into butter. They will have a chance to try to make butter using
different methods to see which works the best and why.
My Day
Program
Cost
$13.00 per student includes all supplies. This in-depth day in the
life experience, allows your students to experience life in rural
Ohio in 1910. Students will rotate through hour long programs in the
One Room School, the 1910 Homestead, and the barnyard. See
special note below.
Pioneer
Life Program
Cost $13.00 per student includes all supplies. This day in the life
program covers the life of the early pioneers who settled the Great
Black Swamp. Students will explore Pioneer Settlement, Sauder
Village’s new addition, rotating through hour sessions in the Lauber
Settlement, Log School and Witmer-Roth homes. Students will get to
try a variety of hands on experiences including pretending to pack a
wagon box, make butter, and do lessons in the school. See special
note below.
Notes for the My Day and Pioneer Life programs: These
programs can only be done at Sauder Village. These programs are
offered on Mondays during the regular Historic Village Season or any
day after the Village closes in October until mid November. Program
can be adapted in length from 2 to 4 hours depending on number of
rotations included. Minimum number required to run this program is
20 students. Maximum can be as high as 80 students with 4 rotations.
