Chris picked up a cute little foot stool at Goodwill 4 years ago and hooked a topper for it. She designed it so she could change it out depending on the seasons and her decorating changes. This is what makes our stools different, “you can change the cover”! It's an easy hooking project that is fun and useful!
Students can design their own pattern using our blank template or we have many designs to choose from, with more being added! What a great gift with the option of just giving the recipient a new cover for the next holiday! Or draw your grandchildren's hand prints or do something special for a baby and change the cover as they grow up. You’re never stuck with just the same old stool!
Students will be contacted in advance and given the choice of options:
- Pattern - create your own design on our blank template or select a pattern from one of our many options.
- Wool – use your own wool or choose one of our color plans.
Your pattern and wool will be shipped directly to you as soon as we have your order, so you can hook it in your favorite cut, #6 and up works best, prior to class and bring the completed hooked top to class --- it is important to note that hooking must be completed prior to class. In class, you will receive your upholstered foot stool and Chibi needles and we will cover the next steps of fitting, trimming, whipping, binding, and finishing your stool.
By the end of class you will have a finished and fitted stool with a topper that can be removed and changed with the seasons or decorating choices.
Bio: Christine Sherman and Julie Mattison are a mother and daughter duo that started rug hooking in 1998. Julie started first and quickly realized that there was a need in their area for rug hooking supplies. At that time they had a gift shop they had built up over 23 years. They added rug hooking and in 2 years decided that was their passion and they sold the gift shop and opened Searsport Rug Hooking.
Chris is the pattern designer and Julie dyes the wool and takes care of the website. They spend half the year in Maine and the other half in Florida. They both enjoy hosting Hook-Ins in Maine in the fall and in Florida in the winter as well as traveling to other rug hooking events to vend and teach.
Specialties: Wider cut designs with #8 --- our personal favorite.
