For over a century the designs from E.S. Frost and Ralph Burnham have inspired rug hookers to create as well as re-create many treasured antique rugs.
Now it is YOUR turn to create your own E.S. Frost or Ralph Burnham inspired rug with concentration on the wonderful warm and inviting backgrounds under the guidance of Lisanne Miller.
As part of this workshop Lisanne will teach you how to uniquely combine wools, different hooking techniques and a myriad of color palettes to create anyone of the many E.S. Frost or Ralph Burnham patterns to your liking—from light backgrounds to warm rich tones. Your rug will be your own to treasure for years to come!
In addition, this class also focuses how to combine dyed wool with textures for a wonderful antique look, to border or not to border (always a question), and using color palettes from bright to muted to neutral. Yes you can color plan and hook these patterns in neutrals too! You will also learn how to apply these techniques to other future projects. This workshop will make you forget your fear of hooking backgrounds, borders, and combining five to twenty five colors in your background for one overall feel!
This class is open to all patterns (Lisanne will have many Frost and Burnham patterns available), original designs are welcome, along with any cut --- from wide to fine! Lisanne will contact students prior to class about their project and will have a wide variety of wools available. Students are always welcome to bring their wool as well!
Well known for her “no rules just have fun” approach to rug hooking, Lisanne will guide you through this creative process for fantastic effects!
