Sauder Village invites homeschool families from throughout the region to our 2022 Homeschool Days. Connect your children to local history, receive discounted home school rates, explore the spectacular 1920s Main Street, and watch unique demonstrations.

"Power Wranglers" Special Programs - During homeschool week, Sauder Village will be highlighting the historical ways people have harnessed power. As students explore, they will be able to discover how technological design and engineering were used to make life easier. Students will also be able to observe and analyze artifacts to better understand the history of the region. Here are just a few of the ways you can make connections across your curriculum.

The Power of Water at the Gristmill will be demonstrating all day how the power of water grinds grain into flour.

The Power of Wind and The Power of the Hand Water Pump at the Grime Homestead will have continuous programming from 10:00 am-12:30 pm to demonstrate how wind power was used on a farm by utilizing our hand water pump. Connections will be made to today’s windmills and the benefits of using this green energy source.

Foot Power at the Sauder Cabinet Shop explores how foot-powered tools made it easier for a cabinetmaker to make fine furniture in the 1880s.

Tread power in the Stuckey Barn will definitely enlighten students about how the use of animals on treadmills saved hours of manual labor on the farm.

The Power of Design at Rich Auto Dealer and Gas Station will be open all day for students to learn how Henry Ford challenged his engineers to produce a simple engine so it could be mass manufactured.

The Power of a Gasoline Engine will be shown in the Grime Barn with a Hit-and-Miss engine.

Other special activities planned for this week include:
- Slopping the Pigs - 11:30 at the Grime Hog Barn

- Goat Milking Demonstration - 12:30 at the Stuckey Barn, lower level

- "The Power of the Sun" - at the Nature Center
