Carving a Stylized Owl

This cute owl is a great project to try out woodcarving. The class will begin with learning basic cuts used for carving wood. Then these techniques will be used to carve the owl. Everyone will leave with at least one completed carving. The instructor will provide all the tools needed to complete this project (wood, carving knife, safety glove).

Instructor Todd Martin began carving when he started to reflect on what he wanted to do when he retired. He bought a cheap set of knives and some bad wood and turned to YouTube. He was hooked.

Since then, he has had the privilege of taking classes with some of the best caricature carvers in the nation, both in person and virtually. He has won local carving competitions, and most recently was presented with an Award of Excellence at the Sauder Village Woodcarver’s Show. His projects have been included in Woodcarving Illustrated and Chip Chats, the publication of the National Wood Carving Association.
