10:00 – 5:00
September 21 is “World Spin in Public Day”, and Sauder Village is celebrating! This is spinning turning wool into yarn – not spinning like a top – but you can spin like a top in public too if you want. 😊
We are joining other spinners worldwide celebrating the age-old process of turning wool into yarn. You’ll be able to interact with spinners from throughout our area and even try your hand at spinning wool on a spinning wheel or a drop spindle.
Cheer on your favorite spinner in our spinning contest. Shop for village produced yarn and wool as well as hand woven or knitted pieces in our Museum Shop. All this fun is included in your Sauder Village admission for the day.
Also on this day is the Base Ball Tournament at Sauder Village. Follow this link for more details: Base Ball Tournament
Are you a spinner interested in joining the fun? Local spinning guilds and individual spinners may bring their own wheels and spindles, wool, and share their love of spinning! Be sure to be on hand for a spinning contest at 11 am and 2 pm
for the title of “Longest Continuous Thread/Yarn”. This is a 15-minute timed competition with each participant receiving 1-ounce of Sauder Village homegrown merino wool roving to spin.
Those spinners wishing to bring their wheels and spindles for this event are required to pre-register. Each pre-registered spinner will be given free admission to Sauder Village for World Spin in Public Day 2024. Register using the button below.
