This class is SOLD OUT.
Class Description: This is a perfect beginner project for learning woodcarving. The class will begin with learning basic cuts used for carving wood. Then these techniques will be used to carve the Santa. After the carving is completed, students will have the opportunity to paint the carved figure using techniques developed specifically for wood. The instructor will provide all the tools needed to complete this project (wood, carving knife, safety glove, painting supplies). Ages 14 years or older. Adults welcome.
Instructor Todd Martin began
carving when he started to reflect on what he wanted to do when he
retired. He bought a cheap set of knives and some bad wood and turned to
YouTube. He was hooked. Since then, he has had the privilege of taking
classes with some of the best caricature carvers in the nation, both in
person and virtually. He has won local carving competitions, and most
recently was presented with an Award of Excellence at the Sauder Village
Woodcarver’s Show. His projects have been included in Woodcarving Illustrated and Chip Chats, the publication of the National Wood Carving Association.
