Penny rugs became popular in the 1800s around the time of the Civil War. Homemakers used scraps of wool and coins to create the shapes of wool pieces, layering the different sized circles. This class provides a modern take on penny rugs using bright, vibrant hand dyed wools and colorful threads to stitch into individual pieces. Each student will learn to stitch four colorful penny rugs using simple embroidery stitches. The finished pennies may be used as a coaster or turned into sculptural wall décor. All supplies are included in the class fee. This is a great Mom & Me style class.
