Winter Traditions Quilt Challenge 2022

2022_Quilt_Show_challenge_header

The inspiration for the 2022 Sauder Village Quilt Show Challenge is winter and the traditions and memories created during those chilly months when people gather inside to stay warm or venture outside to enjoy what nature has to offer.

We are calling the challenge “Winter Traditions” and we are highlighting the use of wool. What images or feelings come to mind when you think about winter? Maybe it is getting together with family and friends. Maybe it is bundling up to shield yourself from the winter chill. Whatever comes to mind, how would you express that in a quilt? How would you use wool to help convey that image or feeling?

Construction Techniques:

Each Winter Traditions challenge entry must include a minimum of four wools from the challenge bundle as well as the background fabric from the bundle. Participants may add any other fabrics of their choosing to complete the quilt.

Entry Requirements:

Each entry must also comply with all entry requirements and guidelines of the Sauder Village Quilt Show, found online at www.saudervillage.org/quiltshowexhibit. This is a design challenge and each entry must be designed, pieced and/or appliqued by a single artist. Entries that have been designed and constructed by more than one person will not qualify for judging. If someone other than the quilt artist does the quilting, the quilter must be given credit on the “Quilted by” line on the entry form.

Size:

Maximum 24” x 24” / Minimum 18” by 218”.  Your quilt can be any shape as long as the outside dimensions fall within these guidelines.

Fabric:

For the 2022 Winter Traditions Challenge, we have selected wools from Primitive Gatherings. Each bundle will include 6 pieces of wool (approx. 7” x 8”) and ó yard of background. The backgrounds were selected from the Semi Solids collection from Marcus Fabrics. To qualify for the challenge, each entrant must use the background fabric and a minimum of four selected wools.
