Lisa Bongean

Larsen, Wisconsin

Known world-wide for her primitive style in quilting, Lisa Bongean calls Wisconsin home. This is where it all happens for Primitive Gatherings and the customers that have grown to love Lisa’s primitive and folk art designs, which features her hand-dyed wools, homespun, reproduction and designer fabrics.

Lisa is a proud mother of three sons, designer, teacher, award winning quilter, shop owner and businesswoman partnered with her husband Nick. In addition to the retail shop, Lisa and Nick manage their wholesale and online business, as well as traveling to and vending at numerous quilt shows across the country. Primitive Gatherings, their family-owned business, opened in 2004. Their newest venture in 2021, a 23,000 sq. ft. retail and manufacturing facility and a 10.000 sq. ft. retreat house that sleeps 24 people.

Primitive Gatherings was elected by the editors of American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine as one of the top ten quilt shops in North America. The shop was featured in the 13th Annual Quilt Sampler, a special publication of the American Patchwork & Quilter magazine.

As a designer for Moda Fabrics, Lisa embraces opportunities to reach out to quilters and support small independent quilt shops. Find Lisa on, and on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
