Sue Cortese, Holland, MI
Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) Representative
National Association of Certified Quilt Judges (NACQJ), Board of Directors
Sue Cortese grew up in Buffalo, NY and currently lives in Holland, MI. She is a quilter, fabric dyer, artist, long-arm quilter, teacher, SAQA Regional Representative, and certified quilt judge. While living in Wyoming, in 1995, she began quilting and dyeing fabric. Her original quilt goal was to make a quilt in every style and pattern. This goal led her to experiment with techniques and styles over the years. By the time she started her third or fourth quilt, she started altering patterns and designs to make her quilts unique. She then began changing colors, dyeing her own fabric, and using different borders and settings. She enjoys traditional quilts as well as art quilts, machine quilting as well as hand quilting, bright colors as well as toned. Why limit yourself!
Sue has been honored with many ribbons from traditional quilt shows including a 2nd place ribbon at AQS-Paducah. Her art quilts have been included in SAQA Exhibits, Quilts=Art=Quilts, Form Not Function, and Muskegon Art Museum’s Regional. She treasures the invitation for her work to be included in an exhibition curated by Nancy Crow, Circular Abstraction. Sue had her first solo show at Lowell Art in January 2023 and was accepted into Quilt National at the Dairy Barn Arts Center, Athens, OH. We are honored to have her teach at Sauder Village Quilt Show 2024.
