In this hands-on 1.5-day class, you will learn shibori techniques and use of an indigo dye vat. Sue will demonstrate techniques as well as show examples of stitched, bound, and pole-wrapped shibori. Students will be given time to practice all techniques and explore some of your own. Students will need some additional supplies. See Supply List.

Shibori is a Japanese resist dyeing technique producing geometric and organic patterns on cloth. The process includes folding, binding, compressing, twisting, tying, and bunching fabric to create patterns that spread across the fabric. Examples of Shibori dyeing can be found as far back as the Nara period (AD 710 - 784).

Roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty, get ready to have fun creating your own hand dyed fabric. Please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting stained.

Kit fee includes: Indigo dye, dye bucket
