Description:
Are you ready for a rug hooking adventure that is both out of this world and as close as your home? What is that special place on Earth that you cherish? Perhaps it is the place you call home or maybe it is the house you grew up in? Could it be a summer cottage or a special memory filled vacation on the beach or in the mountains? Where ever that special location is for you, now you can pour all of those wonderful memories into a rug as unique as that cherished location on Earth.
In this class, Linda Pietz will be assisting you in designing a rug based on a location that you select. Working with a Google Earth photo, you will learn to simplify while choosing the important elements in the photograph. Tracing paper will be overlaid onto the photo in order to draw out your rug design. Using a grid system, your Google Earth rug will be enlarged to 20 inches by 30 inches. The final step before hooking will be tracing the enlarged design onto linen and color planning.
To color plan, more tracing paper will be used. With the original Google Earth photo as reference, you will color in an overlay of tracing paper over your original drawing with markers matching colors you wish to use. Colors can be realistic, matching what is in the photo, or can be any color harmony you desire to create a more abstracted rug. Linda will expertly guide you in whichever direction you choose.
As time permits, you will select wool for your rug from your own stash or wool available for purchase. Cut size can vary depending on the detail in your rug. It is possible that more than one cut size may be used in the design. Depending on the time used for designing, you may have time to start hooking your special rug.
No prior designing experience is necessary as Linda will be there to help you every step of the way. Linda will be contacting you prior to class to get information on where on Earth you would like to hook into a special rug.
