Description:
Abstract designs have meaning. Learn how to simplify a design concept perhaps an emotion, a natural subject, or realistic composition. If you “already create patterns” or “never drew your own” --- explore working quickly through the design process, put the emotion into action, decide on materials and techniques, and communicate that with excitement!
Susan will contact students prior to class to discuss proposed design process, suggest concepts, and guide you with research sources. On the first day of class, there will be drawing exercises, a library of resources to review, and examples of artist’s work for discussion. Students will develop their own design.
On day two, students will learn how to incorporate a number of materials and techniques --- not exclusive to wool strips or yarns, learn stitching, felting, and even painting to accompany your hooking, in order to reach your desired abstract work of art.
The work and inspirations of Abstract Impressionist women artists will play a role throughout the course in examples and exercises. By the end of the workshop, you will have designed your own Abstract art and discussed how to apply a wide variety of materials and textile techniques. Opening up new areas and opportunities --- you will have an out of the box project leading the way to more original designs and creative pursuits.
