Description:
Small Works of Art is a class to develop a small piece of art with hooking and various other fibers and findings. In this class, you will choose one of the many kits Capri has designed. The variety includes flora, fauna, fruit, abstract, nautical, geometric. The size will vary from 4” x 6” to 8” x 10” artwork to accommodate your desired size of cut wool # 2 to # 8. Each kit will include selected wool to assist you in creating that special one-of-a-kind artwork. Capri will have an abundance of hand dyed wool, fibers, fabrics and embellishments available for additional purchase of your interest when your creativity sets in motion.
Capri will discuss the effectiveness of contrast, values and “essence” to create small artwork. How to select fabrics, alternative fibers and embellishments that may enhance the visual. Capri will demonstrate how to stretch the finished work over a canvas and/or frame for presentation. Gallery acceptable finishing techniques will be discussed for each method.
Bio: Capri Boyle Jones enjoys the diversity and possibilities of rug hooking. Encouraging each student to develop vision for the desired end result while enjoying the process. She is experienced in and teaches a wide variety of styles in open classes and focused studies. She has been developing her art in fiber through hooking, designing, dyeing since 1991. Her personal style is painterly, often impressionistic focusing on the use of light and color utilizing all size cuts.
Owner of Capri Boyle Rug Studio, Inc., a McGown accredited teacher, member of ATHA and National Guild of Pearl K. McGowan Hookcrafters. Capri has taught workshops at Maryland Shores Rug Hooking School, Niagara On-the-Lake, Off the Ocean, Hooking and Looking, Asilomar, Chautauqua, Manistee among others. In addition, she teaches for guilds and in her home studio. You may find her artwork in Celebration of Hand-Hooked Rugs, books by Jessie Turbayne, at Quayside Art Gallery in Pensacola, The Cultural Arts Alliance, various exhibits, art shows throughout the US and private collections.

BIO: Susan L. Feller designs patterns for Ruckman Mill Farm and is a juried Fine Craftsman at Tamarack in Beckley, West Virginia. Included in three Celebration of Hand-Hooked Rugs issues and a judge, her work has been juried into several contemporary Hooked Art collections. Author of Design Basics for Rug Hookers, Stackpole Books 2011 her advice has helped many create their own “Great rug.” Her blog provides lessons on process along with product.
Involved in promoting the traditions carried on by artistic contemporaries, Susan teaches and lectures worldwide, and is a member of TIGHR, McGown and Surface Design.
SPECIALTIES: Rug pattern designing and fiber manipulating techniques including hooked, punched, needle felted, and dimensional collage, and picture framer.
