Description: Ok, get those old washboards out, there are sheets to hang! This "Three Sheets in the Wind" workshop will teach you the basic skills of wool appliqué with freezer paper and show you the tools to help make the process easy. If you know how to thread a needle and do a few simple stitches this is a project for you!

You will learn how to make the right choices of wools for the proper appliqué usage, plus some tricks of the trade. While most wool applique only uses simple stitches to attach the motifs, not throughout the piece, Susan will show you how to create shadows, movement, and details with a thread and needle --- like painting a picture with wool and cotton. Susan will also demonstrate how to attach your completed project to a washboard.

Come try this easy and forgiving art form with Susan and her method of appliqué!

Teacher will contact students prior to class:  No

Level:  Basic – students must have basic hand sewing knowledge & experience. No prior wool appliqué knowledge or experience required.

Supply description:  Wool, thread, freezer paper, and pattern.

Students Need to Bring: Pincushion, straight pins, 3 - #24 chenille needles, embroidery scissors, and scissors for cutting freezer paper. Optional: Bring an old or new washboard (washboard opening at least 9.5” wide x 10.5” high).

BIO:  Susan Gonzales is a designer and the owner of Ewe + Us. Designing has always been in the forefront of most any craft she tries. Needle punch or quilting or painting, Susan would always make it her own, draw it differently or change the colors. She began working with wool 20 odd years ago when she first saw a hooked rug!

The love of wool and over-dyed wools soon became a passion when she met the owner of a quilt and rug hooking shop, Lil' Country Shoppe, in 2003. They have been friends ever since and Susan has worked or helped at the shop for 14 years now. After much encouragement from her boss/friend, she started designing wool appliqué patterns in December of 2015 and has not been able to stop! Susan teaches at the shop, where her samples can be seen, and has given presentations for local guilds on her love of wool appliqué and her special way with threads and wools. Susan creates patterns that she hopes make people smile --- when they see her work or even just read a pattern's name. She loves the whole process, saying let the wool work for you, and it’s just fun and relaxing!
