Antique Hooked Rugs

Borrowed from private collectors, these hooked rugs have quite a provenance of owners and background stories. The majority have never been exhibited anywhere. This collection includes rugs attributed to James & Mercedes Hutchinson (not previously exhibited in the 2016 Feature Exhibit), and rugs collected by notable collectors and antique dealers such as Ronnie Newman and Bernie Plomp.

Fascinators & Hats

This is an Invitational Challenge open to all artists to create a 3-dimensional Fascinator* or hat. The piece must include some hooking, but does not have to be hooked entirely. It may also include other forms of textile art techniques and materials.

From January 1 to March 31, we invite artists to submit the following: a photo of your fascinator/hat along with the Title, Designer’s Name, & Maker’s Name with your Contact Info to: wrighttraditions@aol.com We will then contact you in April with more information.

These fascinators and hats will be eligible for a special People’s Choice Award and Ribbon.

*A fascinator is a headpiece or style of millinery. Since the 1990’s the term refers to a type of formal headwear worn as an alternative to the hat; it is usually a decorative design attached to a headband. Fascinators are common in the United Kingdom and often seen at royal events, but have gained popularity here in the United States too.

Dimension – From Our Hands

This Special Exhibit will include individual pieces of innovative & creative 3-dimensional hooked art such as fashion, furniture & sculpture. The piece does not have to be hooked entirely, but must have hooking. It may also include other forms of textile art techniques.

These 3-dimensional fashion, furniture & sculpture pieces will be eligible for a special People’s Choice Award and Ribbon.

From January 1 to March 31, we invite artists to submit the following: a photo of your 3-dimensional fashion, furniture or sculpture along with the Title, Designer’s Name, & Maker’s Name with your Contact Info to: wrighttraditions@aol.com (We ask that pieces either have not been previously exhibit at RHW or not within the last 5 years.) We will then contact you in April with more information.
