Supply description: Zippered sewing kit (10” x 5”) including items seen in the photo; 20” x 20” serged linen foundation; transfer fabric; transfer pen; pencil; 5/8 yard hand-dyed wools to complete mat; 1 ½ yards black wool binding; pattern and visuals.ts you, see below.
Students Need to Bring: Basic rug hooking supplies: a frame, scissors, cutter, # 6 blade, & hook.
Bio: April DeConick is an award-winning hooked wool artist and master dyer. Her specialties include human and animal portraiture, impressionism, oversized and miniature mats, Zonalism, color, and Palette Dyeing.
She is a member of the Celebration of Hand-Hooked Rugs Hall of Fame, with six of her rugs and mats featured in the Celebration juried series (vol.11, 21, 24, 25, 26, and 27) to date. Her rugs and dyed wool have received blue ribbon People’s Choice Awards in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 at Rug Hooking Week at Sauder Village. She has authored articles for the ATHA Newsletter and Rug Hooking Magazine. She also has written and fully illustrated the step-by-step instructional dye book, The Wool Palette: a rug hooker’s guide to dyeing your own color palette of wool. Her second book, Wool Snapshots, is a complete guide to creating miniature hooked portraits from favorite photos.
She is the past-president of the Stash Sisters ATHA guild in Region 9 and a founding member of Houston ATHA Rug Hookers also in Region 9. She writes about rug hooking on her popular blog, Red Jack Rugs. She began hooking in 1995 in rural Michigan. She resides in Houston, Texas
