Description: Get ready to become comfortable around the dye pot, and learn some wonderful new dying techniques. First we will discuss dying safety, as well as dying dos and don’ts. Recycling will be one of our main focuses in this class.

In our evening dying workshop we will discuss and learn how to use recycled materials to enhance our wools. Each student will have a hands on experience learning Nancy’s method of tie dying and participate in the ‘color plan in a pot’ method.

There will be ample time for students to ask questions and get them answered while our dyed wools are processing. Nancy will also bring several rugs that have been hooked using wools that were dyed in one of these methods. Please note that results will always vary, and that is a wonderful part of this type of dying.

Students will receive samples of the wool dyed in class along with handouts.

Level: Everyone welcome, no prior rug hooking or dyeing knowledge or experience required.

Students Need to Bring: Since this is a hands-on dyeing workshop, students may wish to protect their clothing and wear an apron. A notebook and pen are also suggested.

Bio: Nancy Z. Parcels began her hooking career in 1999 and worked on her own for the first two years. Meeting her Mentor, Yvonne Miller opened many doors into the rug hooking world.

Nancy became a McGown accredited teacher in 2007. Her rugs have been featured in Rug Hooking Magazine and in Celebration of Hand-Hooked Rugs on 5 different occasions and she frequently writes articles for Rug Hooking Magazine. Several of her rugs have been chosen at State Fairs, juried art shows, and the Pennsylvania State Museum. She travels and teaches at camps and rug schools, and regularly teaches and color plans from her Rustburg, Virginia home.
