Description:  Now it’s YOUR turn to create your own “Vintage” inspired postcard rug from the decadent Art Deco to the soft pastels of Easter, to a sentimental Valentine. Lisanne will guide you through hooking the Vintage Postcard rug pattern of your choice.

Happy-Halloween-with-black-cats-hooked-rugAs part of this workshop Lisanne will teach you how to uniquely combine wools, different hooking techniques, and a myriad of color palettes to create anyone of the many 50+ postcard patterns to choose from, so there will be one that is just right for you! Whimsical Halloween, Pastel Bunnies & Bonnets brimming with flowers, Tom Turkey dressed for Thanksgiving, Santa through the Ages, Art Deco Ladies, and so much more!

This rug will be your very own souvenir - for years to come!

Girl-with-mail-vintage-postcard-rugIn addition, this class will focus on: how to combine dyed wool with textures for a wonderful antique look, adding mixed media, to border or not to border (always a question), and using color palettes from vibrant to muted to neutral. Yes - you can color plan and hook these patterns in neutrals too! You will also learn how to apply these techniques to your future projects. This workshop will help you conquer your fear of hooking backgrounds, color planning, and combining 5 to 25 colors in your background for one overall look & feel!

This class is open to all suitable postcard patterns (Lisanne has over 50 to choose from), original designs welcome, and any cut from wide to fine! Lisanne will contact students prior to class about their project and will have a wide variety of wools available. Students are always welcome to bring their wool as well!

Well known for her “no rules just have fun” approach to rug hooking, Lisanne will guide you through this creative process for fantastic effects and results!

Bio: Lisanne first held a hook at the age of fourteen as part of the Bi-Centennial Celebration of America—hooking a simple chair pad from some of her mother’s old wool suits. The hook, wool, extra burlap and chair pad traveled with her in her mother’s cedar chest until a dear friend one day revealed that she had a new interest she just loved—primitive rug hooking. Lisanne has never looked back or put her hook down since creating and designing whimsical, wonderful pieces of modern day folk art.

Lisanne is the owner of the W. Cushing & Co., previously P is for Primitive and Peace, Love and Wool.  Lisanne is the Director of Caraway Rug School, has earned the status of “Fellow” and a Master Craftsmen of the Craftsmen’s Guild of Mississippi—recently named as one of the Top 40 Artists, and her rugs have appeared in Rug Hooking Magazine, The Wool Street Journal, numerous ATHA publications, books by Jessie Turbayne as well as “Top 40 at 40.” Lisanne was nominated for her work and company by Martha Stewart Living as a “Made in America” craft/company.

Lisanne teaches across the United States privately and has taught and/or is teaching at Rug Hooking Week at Sauder Village, Hooked in the Mountains, Sebago Rug Camp, Green Mountain Rug School, Rugs by the Sea, and Caraway Rug School.
