Choose-Joy-hooked-rug-Ali-StrebelDescription:  This class is designed to explore the numerous ways needle felting can be incorporated into any rug hooking project.

The application is unique, as students will be hooking and felting directly into a piece of hand woven fabric stretched on a 9” x 9” custom built wooden frame. The wool used for hooking will be hand dyed and #8 cut ready to use. “Beading” is a hooking technique that will also be taught and used in this project. All needle felting supplies will be provided and students will be able to make some color choices from the hand dyed roving provided. A pattern is included along with a list of words/sayings, which students can choose from.

Your finished piece will stay on the custom built wooden frame, so it will be both your working frame and finished frame. You will be creating a piece of work uniquely yours and once completed can be hung or set on a shelf.

In class, Ali will have many examples of needle felting incorporated into hooking for inspiration in your future projects

Level:   Basic – students must have basic rug hooking knowledge & experience.      

Supply description: Hand woven fabric covering a 9” x 9” custom built frame, hand dyed wool (#8 cut and ready to use), hand-dyed roving for felting (with color choices), foam, felting needles, chalk pencil, and pattern.

Students Need to Bring:  Scissors, hook, and a sense of fun!

Bio:   Ali has been teaching fiber art nationally and internationally since 1986. Her business, Ali Strebel Designs, is located in Dayton, Ohio; where she sells the extensive line of books and patterns she has published as well as hand dyed wool, yarn, roving and other fiber art supplies. She has also developed a line of fiber and fiber art inspired jewelry.

 Beside her own books, Ali’s work has been featured in Rug Hooking Magazine’s Designs for Primitive Hookers, The Wool Street Journal, and numerous other publications.
