Village-house-rug-hooked-Caroline-TwiggDescription:  Caroline wanted to hook a Christmas Village for her fireplace mantel, but she hated the thought of all the hand sewing which was needed to finish it. She jokes “I’m allergic to hand sewing!” So, she designed and hooked a charming village and mounted it on a “dummy board” or wood backing - to eliminate endless hours of hand sewing.

In this workshop, students will concentrate on hooking the house in cut #8 or larger plus the “dummy board” finishing techniques. Once you learn the basics of “dummy board” hooking and finishing, you’ll have the skills to take on other projects, which make great gifts! It’s also a new finishing technique to add to your list of skills.

Level:    Basic - students must have basic rug hooking knowledge and experience. 

Supply description:  25” x 25” pattern on primitive linen, wooden dummy board and wool (Caroline will bring a wide variety of wools to class and help each student create a one of a kind house).

Students Need to Bring:  Basic hooking supplies:  a frame, scissors, cutter, cutter blades #8 and larger, & hook. Optional – bring any texture wool you might want to use in this project.

 

Village-townhouse-rug-hooked-Caroline-TwiggBio: In 2005, a friend asked Caroline to attend a rug hooking class for beginners at a local library.  This is where she learned the very basics of rug hooking. She was soon bitten by the rug hooking bug, so she started to reach out to teachers near and far. She quickly realized she had lots to learn and began taking classes from many of the well-known primitive teachers.

In 2011, Caroline and her husband, Ron, launched Eagles Nest Woolens specializing in primitive rug patterns, which are available on their website. They also began opening their home for monthly gatherings of rug hooking friends and students, called Nesters. 

Currently, Caroline travels full-time teaching and vending throughout the country. Caroline also hosts Eagles Nest Woolens Rug School in Ligonier, PA, specializing in primitive teachers. Caroline's rugs have been published in Rug Hooking Magazine, ATHA newsletter, and Ellen Banker’s 2018 book Hooked on Words: Inspiration, Techniques, Projects.
