Hrkman-R1DESCRIPTION:

We know that we create heirlooms when we hook. So, Donna decided to offer a special set of designs that are fun to hook and will become a cherished holiday piece to be enjoyed for years to come.

The beauty of this project is that while you’re creating a festive Christmas mat or pillow top, you’re also learning: how to hook a realistic face and hair, as well as learning about shading fabric for a 3-dimensional look. Donna will show you how to hook the jolly old man’s kind and warm eyes, twinkle and all. The mats measure 14” x 17” and are hand-drawn and shaded on linen. The shading on the pattern is a great learning tool. Donna has a dozen different Santa faces and themes to select from, such as Classic, Engineer, Chef, Sailor, Cowboy, Steampunk, African American, Farmer, Teacher, Postman, Camper & Vacation Santa. Donna will share her tips and techniques for hooking the themed motifs and backgrounds to make each of the Santa designs unique and fun!

Santa-in-casual-hat-hooked-rug-DonnaHrkmanDonna is an accomplished artist with an extensive background in the arts and design. She has created many award-winning portraits and loves to share her knowledge to help students increase their skills and feel confident with their projects. So, this is the perfect Retreat for someone who is either new to hooking portraits or someone who wants to improve their portrait skills. With 4 days to work on Santa, you might just finish Santa during the Retreat and be able to start another Santa. One for you and one for a Christmas gift?

Most of the hooking will be done in smaller cuts to deliver the amount of detail that makes the Santa look real, so think of # 3, 4, & 5 cuts. Donna will bring her cutter with a #3 if you don't have one.
