Description: Have you always admired the beauty of those miniature punch needle pieces you’ve seen in all the needlework stores or online? Now is your opportunity to learn how to do it with Julie from The Old Tattered Flag and Ultra Punch Needle®.
Julie will walk you through the basics of punch needle embroidery, everything from the types of needles, fabrics, threads and designs. During class, she will cover color planning, numbers of strands to use, and exactly how and where they should be used and even teach you how to draw your own designs. Julie will also explain the importance of using hand dyed threads and how to use them in your work. In class, Julie will have many of her finished pieces to view, for inspiration.
Students will be working on an Ultra Punch - Sampler pattern printed on Weavers cloth. The sampler includes four designs: 3" Star, 1 ¼” Heart, 2 ½” x 4" Coneflower and 2" x 5" Vine. The proper threads to use with this sampler will be included.
This sampler is the perfect teaching tool as students will learn basic straight-line punching to develop the proper punching technique, then move on to the other shapes and designs in the sampler that will teach points, filling in, curves, and shaping. Student will feel confident in their punching when they have completed the Sampler pattern and will be able to successfully move on to any other punch needle design.
Julie will demonstrate finishing techniques for your punched pieces, including: basic backing, twisted wool edge, braided edging, cording, and using a variety of fibers for edging as well as different ways to mount your punch needle pieces to frames, antiques, etc.
Students will then be able to make a necklace or ornaments from their punched pieces when finished.
(Please note: this is a punch needle with embroidery floss workshop, not to be confused with a rug hooking with a hook & wool, or a punch needle/punch hooking with yarn workshop.)
