rooster-rug-Michelle-PalmerDescription: This is a punch needle workshop using DMC embroidery floss. The focus will be on exploring the use of highlights and shadows while discovering the importance of negative space and atmosphere. Students will also learn to build contrast with color and texture that will support the main subject.

There are five different sized projects. The seasonal patterns are: The Girls in August, Winter Perch Blue Jay, Bees in the Clover, Gathering Goose, or Rise & Shine Rooster, which can be worked with three or six strands of floss.

Michelle will demonstrate techniques using the Ultra Punch tool. The tool has four interchangeable needle sizes and ease for setting loop length. You can use the medium needle for six strands of DMC floss or the small needle for three strands of DMC floss.

The more comfortable you are with your tool and floss - the easier it is to experiment with fine lines and small details. Once comfortable, you can accomplish anything!

(Please note: this is a punch needle with embroidery floss workshop, not to be confused with a rug hooking with a hook & wool, or a punch needle/punch hooking with yarn workshop.)

Teacher will contact students prior to class:  Yes

blue-bird-rug-Michelle-PalmerLevel: Basic to Intermediate skills – students must have basic needle punch knowledge & experience. (We offer a Beginner Punch Needle workshop on Thursday night, if needed, before signing up for this workshop)

Bio:
Michelle Palmer has illustrated in watercolor for over thirty years. She has translated over one hundred of her paintings and ink illustrations into punch needle and rug hooking designs. Her love for designing with fibers began in 2005. Michelle wanted to bring her illustrated characters to life for her children through needle felting with wool roving. Needle felting quickly expanded to punch needle where she could continue to design functional art. In 2017, her passion for rug hooking began.

Michelle’s works in fiber have a painterly quality. She doesn’t stop painting when she sets her paintbrush down for the day. Her teaching focuses on the use of color, light and atmosphere along with the importance of negative space to define and support the main subject. Michelle’s workshops are filled with practical techniques in a relaxed, light-hearted, atmosphere.

You can find Michelle’s patterns and writings in Punch Needle & Primitive Stitcher Magazine, Rug Hooking Magazine and through her Etsy shop. Her licensed designs are available on fabric collections, calendars, greeting cards, garden flags and other home décor and gift items. Michelle is a member of the Rug Hookers of the Finger Lakes and The Chosen Spot Rug Hookers.
