Description:
Do you enjoy finishing your hooked rugs, or do you put off this final step? Have you been finishing all your rugs the same way? Which finishing methods are best for which rugs? Join Nancy for a day of learning a variety of fun and creative finishing techniques - to both complete and enhance your rugs.
The day will begin with show & tell; Nancy will have a display of her rugs with different finishes. She will also discuss why different finishing methods are more appropriate than others, depending on how you are going to use or display the rug, especially if it will hang on the wall or lay on the floor.
Students will have the opportunity to learn and practice several finishing methods including: single/double/triple whipping with yarn, whipping with wool strips, and using wool fabric as binding. Plus, Nancy will also discuss how to create a wool or fabric sleeve, along with the uses, and how to make your own personalized rug labels. Various materials will be used, such as wool strips, yarn, and assorted other fibers.
Another important topic that will be covered is how to calculate the amount of fiber that is needed for each finishing method. Nancy will also share her favorite tips, tricks, resources, and equipment for finishing, as well as chat briefly about a few other types of finishing like: pocket finishing, and adding silk ties and tongues. Students are invited to bring one or two rugs that need finishing to the workshop, & Nancy will provide finishing advice and help with selecting the appropriate method for that specific rug.
These finishing techniques are perfect for many projects, not just hooked rugs, like coasters, wall hangings, bags, and more.
Students will leave the workshop with a wonderful handout filled with detailed instructions and photos of each method, along with the samples they created in class – both are great references and resources.
