Description:

wool-applique-supplies-2022-workshop-Sue-ClarkIn Sue’s workshop you will challenge yourself to combine two different fiber art forms in one project. She will show you how to incorporate appliqué and rug hooking into a one-of-a-kind, whimsical pin cushion.

Sue will teach a number of creative stitches that she learned while studying under internationally known Sue Spargo, embroidery artist and designer. These stitches will add a beautiful touch of handwork to your project. Some stitches include: bullions, drizzle, double cast on, fly, chain and detached chain, French knots, colonial knots, and more, as many as time permits. She will also discuss her thread preferences and resources.

After adding a wonderful assortment of stitches to the top, the top will be sewn to the linen backing. Sue will then show students how to add a personal touch by designing the borders. Borders will be hooked in cut # 3 or 4, in coordinating wool, above and below the appliqué section.

wool-circle-flowers-2022-workshop-Sue-ClarkAs rug hookers, we often have bits and pieces of wool leftover from hooking projects. Wool appliqué is the perfect solution. Take a little bit of wool, add some gorgeous stitches, maybe some embellishments, and the result is creative and fun fiber art! Not to mention, it’s a compact project for traveling!

Students will have the opportunity to select from several color palettes, prior to class, so that you can create a unique and colorful pin cushion. Your supplies will include everything you need to finish your project.

But wait there’s more! You will also receive a handout with illustrations and detailed written instructions for each decorative stitch – a wonderful resource for future stitching projects.

gold-wool-flower-upclose-2022-workshop-Sue-ClarkBio: Sue has been hooking for many years. She is a McGown certified teacher and enjoys a variety of different art forms. Some of these include: rug hooking, appliqué, glass blowing, and silversmithing.

Hooking with alternative fibers and techniques are Sue’s favorite. These add such a different dimension to your piece. She also enjoys experimenting in the pot, the dye pot that is. Playing with different colors and processes makes for very unusual and beautiful hand dyed pieces.

Sue has taught a number of workshops, teaching all types of rug hooking from fine to wide, and primitive to pictorial. Whenever she is not teaching, she loves to attend classes to broaden her experience, knowledge and friendships. Sharing her knowledge with others is at the top of her list and is always open to learn from others. Everyone knows something that someone else doesn’t.

Sue creates a stress-free environment to create a piece of work that YOU will be happy with. She will help you break some rules and step outside your box. You can try anything once! Fun and laughs included free of charge! Come and share with Sue!
