Description:

Oriental-hooked-rug-Lisanne-Miller-2022Love the look of an Oriental rug? Don’t want the traditional Oriental color palette or narrow cut? Want to personalize an Oriental to your style and colors? Then this workshop is for you!

Lisanne Miller of W. Cushing & Co. will guide you through the color selection from neon to neutrals, show you how to hook your Oriental in a #4 to #8 cut, and teach you how to truly enjoy the beauty of a wide cut Oriental.

For this workshop, the focus will be on two patterns, the Small Frost Oriental 27” x 45” and the Frost Hardenbrook Oriental 28” x 42”. The Small Frost Oriental and Frost Hardenbrook can be hooked in any color palette from traditional to modern. Lisanne will show you “how to breathe new life into old patterns and traditions.”

This workshop will focus on using textures as well as hand-dyed wool - in a fantastic combination.  Lisanne will also guide you through the color planning process and how it works for an Oriental rug pattern - to achieve success and enjoy creating your own original Oriental rug.

Amazingly, you will see how your rug develops with each layer you hook, and just how the Oriental rug blossoms.  During the workshop you will be able to pick your own colors to suit you.  While you will not get a lot hooked during this workshop, you will leave with the entire Oriental color planned.

Prior to class, Lisanne will contact students to plan your project, select and order your pattern. In class, she will have a wide variety of wools available. Students are always welcome to bring their wool as well.

Well-known for her “no rules just have fun” approach to rug hooking, Lisanne will guide you through this creative process for fantastic effects and results!

Bio: Lisanne first held a hook at the age of fourteen as part of the Bi-Centennial Celebration of America—hooking a simple chair pad from some of her mother’s old wool suits. The hook, wool, extra burlap and chair pad traveled with her in her mother’s cedar chest until a dear friend one day revealed that she had a new interest she just loved—primitive rug hooking. Lisanne has never looked back or put her hook down since creating and designing whimsical, wonderful pieces of modern-day folk art.
