This workshop is an introduction to creating dimensional and sculpted fiber art jewelry, in the form of a pin. The theme will be Halloween, and students may select three pin kits during the workshop. Choices are a Jack-O-Lantern, Witch, Ghost and Scarecrow.

If you have never needle felted or needle sculpted before, this workshop is for you. It will cover the basics of needle sculpting, along with the finishing steps for making a pin. It is both an immediate gratification project and the foundation for adding sculpting to future hooked and sculpted projects. Not to mention, the start of making some fun, creative gifts.

Everyone will be asking you . . .Where did you get that cute Halloween Pin?

Teacher will contact students prior to class: Yes

Level:  Basic – students must have basic hand sewing knowledge & experience.

Supply fee description:  Students will be able to choose 3 kits from 4 options. Kits will include all the materials needed to make 3 pins. And there will be a variety of add-on embellishments to ensure your pin is a unique one-of-a-kind creation!

Students Need to Bring: Scissors, imagination, needle, and thread.

After observing rug hooking demonstrations for 3 years, Cheryl picked up a hook and gave it a try in March 2005. Ever since then, rug hooking has been her passion.

In 2010, Cheryl completed her McGown Teacher Certification.

While living in Hawaii, Cheryl earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1990 — majoring in sculpture. Sculpting is her specialty, what she is trained in, and 3 dimension is how she views her subjects. She sculpts in wood, clay, cement, metal, and fiber.

In 2006, she opened cdb Studios – a studio and online business that offers hand-dyed wool and instruction in rug hooking. Cheryl enjoys the artistic process, creating gorgeous wool, silk and velvets in her dye pot, producing unique artistic creations, and teaching others. In addition to teaching in her studio, she also travels to teach.

Cheryl is an active member of ATHA, was a volunteer for the 2019 ATHA biennial in Denver, Colorado, a past representative for Region 10, and has served as the editor of the ATHA magazine since October of 2013. She is also a member of the Pearl K. McGown Hookkrafters, and is the director of the South Central McGown Teachers’ Workshop. In addition to these organizations, she is also a member of the Colorado Rug and Fiber Guild and the Natchez Trace Rug Hookers in Nashville, TN.

Her work has been featured in Celebration of Hand-Hooked Rugs XXII and XXV, ATHA Art of Rug Hooking and Rug Hooking Magazine.
