Description:

Painting-Spring-House-Miller-AJoin Lisanne Miller of W. Cushing and Co. as she opens the doors of the enchanting world of Storybook Cottages, based on the artwork of Alida Akers.

This wonderful and inspiring workshop is for those who wish to expand their rug hooking techniques, explore new creative techniques, add some “out of the box” extras such as beads, needlepoint threads, specialty dyed wools and even fur yarns.

Each Storybook Pattern (there are 48 to choose from) is unique but makes you smile, invites you in and creates a wonderful world of its own. When you choose your pattern, Lisanne will assist you in hooking your rug and achieving that style. Each of the patterns is done in “watercolor effect.”  Lisanne will also explain and teach the technique of watercolor style so you can incorporate that into your Storybook Cottage!

Whether it is Summer Laundry, Blueberry Bunny Cottage, Lupines by the Seashore or one of the many other patterns to choose from, you will be creating your own “enchanting” Storybook Cottage and interpreting the pattern with your style added.

Each student will pick their own Storybook pattern prior to the workshop, allowing you to pick the season, cottage or landscape you like!  You will be hooking in a #3 to #8 cut - depending on the pattern you pick and Lisanne will be reaching out prior to the workshop to assist you in your selection.

Lisanne will be bringing Storybook dyed wools, textures, beads, needlepoint threads and specialty yarns for purchase in the classroom. Just pick your pattern, bring your hook, cutter, scissors and frame!

Bio: Lisanne also has wool in her veins. She first held a hook at the age of fourteen as part of the Bicentennial celebration of America: hooking a simple chair pad from some of her mother’s old wool suits. The hook, wool, extra burlap, and chair pad traveled around with Lisanne, treasured and stored in her mother’s cedar chest. Then one day, a dear friend revealed that she had a new interest she just loved: primitive rug hooking. Lisanne went back to her hooking roots and has never looked back or put her hook down since, spending her time and imagination creating and designing whimsical, wonderful pieces of modern-day folk art.

Previously the founder and designer of P is for Primitive and Peace, Love, and Wool, Lisanne now owns a treasured source of rug hooking supplies and inspiration: W. Cushing & Co. in Wells, Maine.  She is the author of Beautiful Wool: In the Dye Kitchen with Lisanne Miller, which guides the reader through the process of creating glorious colors and applying dyeing techniques. Lisanne is the director of Caraway Rug School, has earned the status of “Fellow” and a Master Craftsmen of the Craftsmen’s Guild of Mississippi and was named one of the Top 40 Artists. Her rugs have appeared in Rug Hooking magazine, The Wool Street Journal, numerous ATHA publications, books by Jessie Turbayne and “Top 40 at 40.” Lisanne was also nominated for her work and company by Martha Stewart Living as a “Made in America” craft/company.

Painting-Winter-Bunny-Miller-DLisanne teaches in her Maine studio, as well as across the United States privately and at the Caraway Rug School, Rug Hooking Week at Sauder Village, and Old Cape Cod Rug School.   Her specialties are color planning, hooking outside the lines, watercolor effect in rug hooking, antique-inspired, naïve folk art, whimsical designs, architecture and landscape.
