Description:

Rug-Hooking-Bag-Leaf-Kriner-AThis workshop will provide instruction and finishing techniques to create a statement wardrobe accessory - a stylish cut-out handled hooked purse.

Students will complete the hooking, in whatever cut size they prefer, prior to attending this workshop. This will allow the assembly and construction to be the focus of this workshop and allow the purse to be completed in the allotted class time. During class, instruction will include: how to sew together the two sides, finish the cut-out section of the handle, and line the purse with cotton fabric – all completed by hand sewing. The finished purse is approximately 10” x 11” and is hooked on both sides.

When Katie contacts students in advance, they will either choose from the design shown or work with Katie to design your own unique purse. Kits will then be mailed to students with a choice of cut or uncut wool, according to your preference.

Rug-Hooking-Bag-Leaf-Kriner-BColor – Katie will offer students the choice of using the same or different colors, or create something unique. Once you’ve made one of these smart purses, you’ll want another, and another!

Bio: Katie Kriner started rug hooking ten years ago. She began hooking designs by other artists, but soon developed her own original style. Through various classes and camps, she developed her skills, designed patterns, color planned, and dyed wool for her own rugs. From there she found a niche helping customers and friends do the same for their own rugs. She opened her own shop in the Fall of 2017. You can find her at The Bee & The Bear in Hereford, Pennsylvania. The 1860s general store is the perfect setting for a wool and thread retail business with classes for punch needle and rug hooking.

Rug Hooking with Wool Strips, published by Schiffer Publishing Co., is her first book on rug hooking. It came out in October 2021 and contains 20 rug hooking projects for the modern rug hooker. The book contains ideas and projects that include floor rugs, a tea cozy, wine tote, pillows, purses and much more. It is a book that introduces one to rug hooking but also gives many projects and ideas for the seasoned rug hooker.

Most of the pieces she designs and makes are either for her home and personal use or for friends and family. She is a lifelong gardener which serves as inspiration for much of her work. Katie lives in southeastern Pennsylvania with her husband and German shepherd.

Her shop is located at 57 Star Road Hereford, PA 18056 and online she has a website & Etsy shop.
