DESCRIPTION:

It is easy to get comfortable in our creative lives and gravitate towards the same techniques, tools, and materials.  However, when we feel confident with multiple techniques our creativity compounds and each pattern can be approached with a fresh set of eyes. 

Using Rebecca’s 16” x 16” Where the Wind Blows pattern as our guide, students will discover how to make the piece their own while exploring how punch needle rug hooking, standing wool, and traditional rug hooking can be combined.  As a bonus needle felting will also be covered. The possibilities are varied and everyone's unique styles will be honored.  This class will be content rich with hands on demonstrations of each technique. 

Topics that will be covered include:

•           Hooking with yarn and wool strips

•           Quillies and how to attach them

•           Other standing wool techniques

•           Using a punch needle to sculpt

•           When to hook and when to punch

•           Using a punch needle to cover piping

•           Needle felting and Much More

This is a great retreat class for anyone interested in fiber art. Not only are you learning a variety of techniques, but how to work them into a single project.

LEVEL: 

Intermediate - Students must have good rug hooking & rug punching knowledge and experience. No knowledge of standing wool or needle felting is needed. (If you do not have rug hooking/rug punching knowledge and experience, Zoom lessens can be arranged separately & in advance with Rebecca, so that you can participate in this retreat. Contact Rebecca directly for more info).

RETREAT PROJECT & SUPPLIES:

 The teacher will contact pre-registered students, starting on March 1st, to discuss your retreat project and supplies (to be purchased directly from the teacher). See DESCRIPTION, above, which contains both specific retreat information and project options.  


STUDENTS NEED TO BRING: 

Basic hooking supplies: a rug hooking frame &/or punch hooking frame, small scissors, hook & a #10 regular Oxford Punch needle. The #8 Fine Oxford punch will also be used.  If you have one, bring it or there will be some available to purchase or borrow.

BIO:

A native of the east coast, Rebecca was called west for university and made Colorado her home.  She lives there with her husband and two children.  Rebecca is passionate about all things rug hooking: traditional rug hooking, punch needle rug hooking, standing wool and proddy all find their way into her creative work and classes.

As a certified Oxford Punch Needle Instructor and McGown accredited teacher, she loves to teach punch needle and traditional rug hooking both in person and online. She has taught at both Rug Hooking Week at Sauder Village and the ATHA Convention. Rebecca's book, Rug Hooking in Harmony, was published in late 2023 and she has written numerous times for Rug Hooking Magazine and ATHA's magazine. She is a member of the Oxford Instructor Punch Needle Guild, ATHA, The National Guild of Pearl K. McGown Hookrafters, and TIGHR. 

When Rebecca isn't writing, punching, or hooking, she is hovering over her dye pots, dyeing rug yarn and wool fabric for her company, StoryTeller Wool.
