Description: 

Join Ali for a fun and creative day, where you will learn 6 different fiber art techniques to fill your pumpkin, just in time to decorate for the Fall. These techniques can be applied however you like to make your pumpkin one of a kind.

The techniques covered in this project include:

  1. Couching
  2. Fabric bundles
  3. Standing wool
  4. Ruching
  5. Clipped loops
  6. Needle felting

The materials used in this workshop include: hand dyed wool, wool dreads, pencil roving, wool roving, & pipe cleaners.

When completed the pumpkin can be placed in a wreath, appliquéd to a pillow, or simply hung or displayed as a Fall decoration.

Once you have learned these techniques, they can be applied to your future work and to embellish rug hooking projects. You can count on Ali to bring several of her other works to inspire and motivate you!

Teacher will contact students prior to class:  Yes 

Level:  Basic – Students must have basic rug hooking & hand sewing knowledge & experience.

Supply description:  11” x 13” Pumpkin pattern on linen, spot dyed orange wool, hand dyed orange wool dreads (boarder) hand dyed orange pencil roving, hand dyed wool roving (for stem and leaf), and pipe cleaner (for tendril).

Students Need to Bring:  Basic hooking supplies:  a frame, scissors, & hook. Needle felting supplies: felting needle & felting pad. Sewing supplies: needles & thread. Ali will provide additional info on needle felting & sewing supplies when she contacts students, she will also have some extra of those supplies in class for students to use/share.

 

Bio: 

Ali has been teaching fiber art nationally and internationally since 1986. Her business, Ali Strebel Designs, is located in Tipp City, Ohio; where she sells the extensive line of books and patterns she has published as well as hand dyed wool, yarn, roving and other fiber art supplies. She has also developed a line of fiber and fiber art inspired jewelry.

Beside her own books, Ali’s work has been featured in Rug Hooking Magazine’s Designs for Primitive Hookers, The Wool Street Journal, and numerous other publications.
