Description:

One of the many fiber art mediums that Susan is known for is her dimensional work, along with her wonderful finishes and applications.

In this workshop, you will create a beautiful branch of pomegranates. The branch measures 15 inches and will have 2 large pomegranates, 1 bud, and leaves. You will also make 2 pomegranate halves – exposing the inside of the fruit. The halves look great mounted on the branch or just laying alongside – as if they fell off.

We will work with wool and wire to complete the project. Learn the freezer paper method of preparing the wool - with some tips and tricks to take home with you. Simple hand stitching will make it all come together and you will leave with a finished pomegranate branch. Opening your eyes to the world of “wool & wire” of which seems to be never ending! A fun easy workshop for all! If students would like to make additional branches, kits can be purchased in class.

Once completed, this branch of pomegranates will spice up your home during the upcoming fall and holiday seasons with its wonderful warm colors. It will look great mounted on a wreath or displayed in your favorite bucket, crock, pitcher or vase.

Bio:

Susan designs patterns for appliqué, rug hooking, punch needle, stitchery and wool and wire. She enjoys doing all of these art forms. Her appliqué patterns have been featured in Better Homes & Gardens Holiday Crafts and the Quilt Sampler for which she is so proud.

Susan has always loved to draw and create, so being able to make a pattern came natural for her. Her love of rug hooking is one of her favorites. She has never had formal training in rug hooking, but learned much of what she needed from a quilt shop owner that she worked with for many years. With the encouragement from that shop owner, she started drawing her own designs and has now been a designer for seven years as Susan Gonzales Designs. You can find her on her Etsy shop.

Susan loves wool appliqué, she thinks it’s like playing with paper dolls. She also loves the process of making a pattern, drawing the design, creating the project and writing the instructions. She is dyslectic and try’s real hard to write a pattern that everyone understands along with a clear stitch guide to make the process a pleasure. She has found that her designs can fit in with her love of rug hooking, punch needle, and wool and wire, along with appliqué and stitchery. She is full of creative designs and can’t wait to get the next one on paper.
