Everyone is invited to submit rugs in the Main Exhibit, below are the categories. Please review the following information before your pre-register --- starts on April 3, 2024 & ends on July 26, 2024! As a thank you, exhibitors receive complimentary admission Wednesday – Saturday to the Exhibit, Vendors, and historic Sauder Village. Pick up your admission pass at Founder’s Hall – Admission Desk.

Hooked or Punched:

(must be flat & hangable, unframed or framed):

            Hooked – using a rug hook and strips of cut wool fabric

            Punched – using a punch tool (such as the Oxford Punch Needle) with yarn or strips of cut

            wool fabric.

  • Animals / Birds / Insects 

  • Fruit / Floral 

  • Orientals / Crewel / Geometric 

  • Original... designed & hooked by the same person  

  • People / Places / Pictorial

 

Fiber Art:

  • Braiding - three or more fiber/cloth strips are twisted into braids, then sewn or laced into a shape.

  • Needle Felting –
    a small amount of wool roving is stabbed repeatedly with a felting needle, pulling the fibers together, to create a form or sculpture.
  • Fusion – fiber art that includes more than one medium/technique, such as: hooking, punching, braiding, needle felting, proddy, punch needle, punch hooking, quilling, ruching, shearing, wool appliqué. It may also incorporate a variety of materials, such as: plastic, ribbon, paper, wood, yarn, fabrics.
  • Punch Needle – working from the back, the punch needle tool (such as Ultra Punch Needle) pushes thread or embroidery floss into the fabric, creating loops of various heights on the front side.

  • 3-Dimensional - fiber art of any technique or combination of techniques which is multi-dimensional such as: footstools, purses, clothing, dolls, pillows, make-do’s, tea cozies, jewelry, fiber art journals.
  • Wool Applique - ornamental needlework in which pieces of wool are sewn onto a large piece of fabric to form pictures or patterns. Another name is Penny Rug – which uses the same technique, but with coin shapes.

 

Exhibit/ Rug Registration Note: ADAPTATIONS - If the design of your piece is an adaptation, reference this in the "interesting information" about your rug on the Rug Exhibition Registration form and register the piece in the category best fitting for the design. Adaptations are not to be included in the "original" category. 

New Policy: Framed / Extremely Large or Heavy / Bulky Works
Starting in 2024, any exhibit entry that is framed, extremely large, heavy, and/or bulky no matter the category, must be reviewed by staff, prior to exhibit registration, to ensure we can accommodate & plan for the appropriate display of your piece. Prior to registering your piece for exhibition, you will be required to submit, via email, photos of the finished piece, exact measurements, type of hanger (wire hanger preferred), as well as the total weight. If staff determines your work can be suitably displayed for the show, you will be contacted with further instructions.
