Primitive Rugs: Large Cut and Hand Torn

Theresa-Rapstine

Theresa Rapstine

 4 Day Retreat

Tuesday – Friday, August 12 – 15, 2025
8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
$450.00 / $420.00 Sauder Village Member

DESCRIPTION:

This fun, open class will help you learn how Theresa makes rugs look old, worn, and vintage. Theresa will help you explore using hand torn and hand cut wool strips or you can use a cutter with 8.5 or larger blades. Her love for recycled and as-is wools will help students use mostly as-is, textured wool and wools they have never seen before. She will encourage you to practice color planning and learn to create her “non-traditional” style.

LEVEL:
Intermediate - students need basic skills in rug hooking.

PROJECT MATERIALS/SUPPLY FEE:

Theresa will contact registered students prior to the retreat with pattern options and to discuss projects. Patterns, wool and large shank (10 mm) hooks will be available for purchase during class. Students choose from one of Theresa’s patterns designs which are fun, whimsical and “old” looking.

STUDENTS NEED TO BRING:

Students should bring their own basic rug hooking supplies: large shank hook, scissors, a pair of large blade scissors for hand cutting, frame, light and anything that helps them be comfortable during class. Students may also bring their own wool or special pieces they would like to incorporate.
