Description:

This class will help you learn how to use hand torn, and hand cut wool strips to make your rugs look more homemade and primitive. Theresa’s love for recycled and as-is wools will help students use mostly as-is, textured wool and wools they have never seen before. She will encourage you to think about values, contrast and learn to create her “non-traditional” style.

Students Need to Bring:

Students should bring their own basic rug hooking supplies: large shank hook, scissors, a pair of large blade scissors for hand cutting, frame, light and anything that helps them be comfortable during class. Students may also bring their own wool or special pieces they would like to incorporate.

Bio:

Rug hooking has been one of Theresa’s passions for 20 years. She enjoys traveling the country with her mom to attend rug camps and learn from primitive teachers. She has been teaching since 2014. Theresa enjoys helping others learn about primitive rug hooking and has authored several articles about her style in Rug Hooking magazine and The Art of Rug Hooking by ATHA. Her rug, Vintage Blooms, has been honored in Celebrations XXV, displayed at Sauder Village, and appears in Primitive Hooked Rugs for the 21st Century by Cynthia Norwood.

Theresa is the current president of the Denver Rug and Fiber Guild, an ATHA chapter, and co-chaired the Denver Biennial in 2019. She has recently built a rug hooking studio to her home and hosts small groups for hooking and primitive classes. Theresa holds a master’s degree in nursing leadership and works full time as a pediatric nurse consultant. She lives in Denver, CO with her fun husband, Richard Schafer.
