Description:

Students will learn how to hook the genre of illustrations from the early 1900s. While the hooking for this piece can be fairly straightforward, Susan will cover a lot of fun extras, such as different types of directional hooking for best effect, some creative stitches, alternative fibers, and a bit of dazzle (buttons and clothespins). Susan will also discuss and demonstrate hooking with fur, dry felting and sculpting for the cats. Instruction on lettering and one style of finishing will conclude this busy day.

Students Need to Bring: Order pattern of your choice - Rug Hooking Patterns Inspired by Louis Wain - from Honey Bee Hive. The pattern Susan used was a larger version of PR2033. Background options will be discussed; supplies can be chosen after the class.

The following supplies are also required:

- Dorr Black - 1/2 yard
- Dorr White - 1 swatch
- Bright Yellow (off bolt) - 1/4 yard (or more)
- Wools for cat clothing - vintage colors, flat (off bolt, textures overdyed), two swatches each; four swatches for dress
- Textures for cat bodies - two swatches each, furry yarn for tails (optional)

Bio:

I have been hooking for about 20 years, and teaching since 2019. While I enjoy teaching Open Class, my favorite workshops include realistic animals, carpetbags, and geometric rugs. I am certified by the Ontario Hooking Craft Guild, and currently working towards my McGown certification. I love teaching color planning and design. I am passionate about learning and take several workshops a year to make sure that I can offer instruction in many hooking styles. During Covid, I adapted my teaching style and now offer workshops on line as well as in person.
