Letter from the Director

Dear Artists & Rug Hooking Enthusiasts,

This quote by Ossie Davis, pretty much sums up this year’s Feature & Special Exhibit focus: “Any form of art is a form of power; it has impact, it can affect change – it can not only move us, it makes us move.” Art & Power are a compelling combination, here are this year’s Feature & Special Exhibits:

F Hooked Artwork Inspired by David Galchutt

F Maine Fiberarts

F Women’s Vote Centennial (& Invitational Exhibit)

S Fraktur Sketchbook in Fiber

S Island Life - Old & New

S Wide Cut Realism

Stunning paintings & illustrations transformed into amazing textile artwork, distinctive locations captured in fiber essence, passionate artists & their favorite mediums, & the pride & celebration of the Women’s Right to Vote, & the roaring 1920s documented in hooked art --- it’s all outstanding textile art & it’s powerful! Even some of this year’s Group Exhibits touch on these topics. We think you will be amazed at the use of design, color, & techniques, as well as the artist’s storytelling talents. More info is on our Exhibit page, simply click on the exhibit category. Please note: The Women’s Vote Centennial Exhibit is an Invitational Exhibit this year --- we invite you to participate.

For the 24th year, we also invite you to exhibit your work in our Main Exhibit, all levels welcome, simply pre-register your work between February 10th – July 31st.

This year’s 35 Retreats & Workshops (including Dye Classes & Gallery Talks) are conveniently offered in evening to 4 day lengths to fit within your Rug Hooking Week visit. Saturday classes are a great add-on to 3-4 day retreats, or for those who work during the week. So, learn a new technique, study with a teacher from your wish list, stretch yourself, be creative, or just have fun! Class registration begins January 15th online.

Shopping is always a very important part of Rug Hooking Week, this year is no exception, new and returning Vendors will debut brand spanking new merchandise, bring your favorite wool, patterns, supplies & equipment, help you with your projects, and surprise you with the unexpected!

Whether you come for a day or the entire week, networking is another important part of Rug Hooking Week with thousands of attendees & exhibitors coming from more than 40 states and several countries. Plan on meeting old & new friends while you’re here!
