All class participants will receive two one-day complimentary admission passes to Historic Sauder Village. You can use this personalized, non-transferable pass on any day of the Woodcarver’s Show. Your passes will be given to you at class check-in and must be presented at the admission desk in order to gain entrance into the Historic Village.

“Bringing Realistic Animals to Life”
with Leah Goddard

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (with one hour lunch break)

Class Fee:  $285 ($260 Members) Additional supply fee payable to teacher.

Class Size: 
Minimum 7 / Maximum 12

Location: Sauder Heritage Inn

Skill Level:   Beginner thru Advanced

Description:
Students may choose from two available Basswood rough-outs, designed to be fully completed within 3 days. Students will be taken through the step-by step process of carving, texturing with a wood burner and painting—techniques all used to bring realistic animals to life. Close attention will be given to anatomy and detailing. All painting supplies are provided by the instructor.

Tools needed:
Bench knife, V-tool, #3 gouge, wood burner, and any hand tools you are comfortable using. (A limited amount of wood burners will be available for loan, with advance notice.)

“Carving a Realistic Human Bust”
with Chris Howard

Class Size:  Minimum 7 / Maximum 12

Location: Sauder Heritage Inn

Skill Level: Beginner thru Advanced.

Description:
Students may choose from a variety of realistic bust rough-outs in Basswood, Butternut or start from Cottonwood Bark (other woods available upon request). Students will be taken through the major steps used in creating a realistic human bust. Subjects include both woman and man Native Americans, Mountain Men and Wood Spirits. Students can expect to complete all major details such as laying out the face, eyes, nose and mouth within three days, although some detailing, such as hair, will be left to finish on own. Cotton Wood Bark pieces should be completely done within the 3 days. Chris will make a personalized rough-out for an individual if given enough notice before class.

Tools needed:
Any hand tools of your choice that you are comfortable using.

Annual Woodcarver’s Awards Banquet & Dinner Lecture with Leah Goddard and Chris Howard

Date: Saturday, October 27, 6:00 p.m.

Location: Sauder Heritage Inn

Guest Speaker: Leah Goddard & Chris Howard

Tickets: $30.00 per person (pre-registration required)

In addition to your workshops, plan to join us for the annual Woodcarver’s Awards Banquet on Saturday evening. After a delicious buffet dinner, awards are presented for winning exhibitors at the show and Guest Artists, Leah Goddard and Chris Howard, will serve as our guest speakers.

Cancellations:  Cancellations prior to September 28, 2018 will receive a refund of fees minus a 10% processing fee.  No refunds after September 28, 2018.  If classes do not meet the minimum number of students by September 28, 2018, we may be forced to cancel the class, and all fees will be refunded.
