NEW! 1920s Main Street As Ohio’s largest living history destination, a highlight of Sauder Village is the opportunity for guests to take a “Walk Through Time” to experience life in Ohio from 1803 through the roaring 1920s while visiting Natives & Newcomers, a Pioneer Settlement Area, and the new 1920s Main Street. As guests stroll down an authentic 1920s Main Street they will be able to stop by the theater to take a peek at what’s playing on the big screen, explore a grocery store, and sip a cherry phosphate at the soda fountain. Guests can see the latest fashions at the dry goods store, meet horses at the livery, buy candies at the candy store, take an antique car ride and have fun exploring the bank, fire station, and even a speakeasy. Historic Walk through Time from 1803 – 1928  Visit over 50 homes and shops in Historic Sauder Village. Experience the lives of our ancestors while talking with costumed guides and working craftsmen in historic homes, community shops, farms and gardens.

Natives & Newcomers – 1803 - 1820 Step back to 1803, the time of Ohio’s statehood and into the lives of the Native Americans and European traders who lived in Northwest Ohio. As you enter the wigwams or smell the traditional foods cooking over the fire or interact with the costumed interpreters, you’ll learn what life was like for the hundreds of Native Americans who called Northwest Ohio home and how they interacted with their environment, each other and the Europeans who were beginning to move into this region. Enter the Fur Traders Cabin to learn about early trade in this region. Discover an important, but little told chapter in American history through engaging demonstrations and hands-on activities. Follow this link for more information: Natives & Newcomers

Pioneer Settlement – The Immigration Story – 1834 - 1870The newest phase of the historic timeline, provides a unique opportunity to experience the development of the “Great Black Swamp” region. This area shares the stories beginning with the journey of the first permanent European immigrants to this region and their struggle for survival that first year as they established a new community. As these settlers drained the swamp, the rich land provided for the advancement of agriculture as a commercial enterprise for their families. While focusing on Northwest Ohio, these stories mirror our national story of immigration, community building and technological changes. As guests hear stories of their journey, their struggles and their joys they’ll be inspired with the messages of hope as they learn how these early settlers not only survived but thrived!
