2-Day caricature woodcarving class with master carver Jean McDonald
Carve your choice of Santa, a woodland gnome, or a wizard from a prepared basswood rough out. Use your imagination to add your personal touch to your carving to create a family heirloom. Explore basic carving skills, methods and designing, along with tool sharpening and safety.
Students need to bring: carving knife, small gouge, v-tool, and a carving glove.
All levels are welcome with minimum hand strength required.
Class Fee: $249/$229 Sauder Village Member, Class size limited to 8 students.
Supply Fee: $20, payable to instructor at the start of class

Instructor: Jean McDonald
Jean became interested in woodcarving in the late 80s, inspired by videos presented by Rick Butz, an exceptional carver who has done much to popularize the art. After attending many classes with established and talented carvers, Jean began to exhibit her work at woodcarving shows. Jean has taught at local non-profits, Woodcraft, and John C. Campbell Folk School. Teaching woodcarving is both fulfilling and enjoyable for Jean. She never fails to learn from her students and loves an interactive classroom.
