Swamp Benefit, Inc. - Tuesday, February 23:
This non-profit organization supports Sunshine Inc. of Northwest Ohio and
Mennonite Central Committee. The Black Swamp Benefit draws upon the
traditions of the former Sunshine Bazaar and Quilt Auction and current MCC
relief sales to raise funds for the local work of Sunshine and the global
work of MCC. Sunshine, Inc. (formerly Sunshine Children's Home) serves
people with disabilities and their families in Northwest Ohio. Sunshine
currently provides loving care at the Children's Home in Maumee, at 15
family care homes in two counties, at individual client homes, through
weekend and overnight respite programming and through supported employment
and day habilitation programs. Since 1920, MCC has channeled supplies to
help relieve human suffering in the world. MCC now serves in 57 countries in
personal ways - feeding the hungry, healing the sick, rebuilding homes,
helping till soil and plant crops and encouraging peaceful resolution to
conflict. Support for Black Swamp Benefit, Inc. comes from more than 40 area
churches, civic groups, quilt guilds, individual donors and volunteers.
Fulton County Heart Radiothon
-
Tuesday, March 2: This grassroots
organization has helped to raise funds for heart related equipment and
awareness of heart-related illness in Fulton County. Through funds raised by
this organization, 102 AED units have been placed and maintained throughout
Fulton County. Funds also help provide heart-related equipment to local fire
departments and the cardiac rehabilitation and intensive cardiac care
departments of the Fulton County Health Center. The organization supports a
program called “Teen Tickers” in all county schools and supports a “finger
stick” cholesterol, blood sugar and heart screening in local communities.
Radiothon funds also provide training for organizations participating in the
AED program by providing CPR and AED training and orientation.
Also,
the Archbold Fire Department
will be doing free blood pressure checks at the Winter Picnic on March 2nd from 4:30 – 6:30 pm.
