Threads of Tradition

Top Quilt Shop in the region!

Threads of Tradition, the quilt shop at Historic Sauder Village, celebrates the rich heritage of quilting that has been handed down through generations.  Threads of Tradition actively encourages the growth and development of this heritage art form.  Visit the shop to see all of the quilt samples in a wide variety of styles.  Threads of Tradition intentionally challenges its staff and teachers to try new things in an attempt to provide options for every taste and style of quilting.

The friendly and knowledgeable staff of Threads of Tradition is always available to assist the quilt and sewing enthusiast in making selections from over 3,500 bolts of top-quality cotton fabric.  Fabric selections cover the full spectrum of reproductions, contemporary, batiks and more.  Threads of Tradition also carries flannels, canvas, wool, a large selection of 108” wide backing fabrics, Valdani thread, quilt marking stencils and hand-quilting thread.  Visitors to the shop will also find an ever-changing selection of books, patterns and notions.  Threads of Tradition also provides machine-quilting services for customers.  For pricing and details, please stop out at the shop and talk with the staff.

This spacious and well-lit shop features over 3,000-square feet of space devoted to displaying quilt samples, kits and everything needed to make the quilt or sewing project next on your list.  Whether you are shopping for a specific project, looking for inspiration or just need a fabric “fix”, stop for a visit with the Threads of Tradition staff to see what is new.  The staff is always glad to see you and enjoys seeing your latest fabric creations.

Browse through the quilt shop to see samples of current classes or chat with the volunteer hand quilters who demonstrated hand-quilting skills throughout the village season.  Even though Threads of Tradition is located inside the Historic Village, it is open year-round and there is never an admission fee to shop.  During the Historic Village open season, simply request a shopper’s pass at the Admissions Desk and come out to the shop!  You can also purchase an annual membership to Sauder Village, which includes free admission to the Village and all festivals, including the Sauder Village Quilt Show.  Membership holders also receive a 10% discount in all Historic Village retail shops and on all classes and retreats.

Create-a-Class Available: Our teachers often wish that they knew what students most want to learn. So, if you see something in the shop or have a particular quilting skill that you really want to learn, talk to your quilting friends, gather together a group of at least four people and we'll attempt to set up a class for you as soon as possible! Take us up on this opportunity to create the class that you would like to see us offer! E-mail us at quilts@saudervillage.org.
